Off-Duty Deputy Dies As Mom Suffered 'Possible Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound'—Police

A Texas sheriff's deputy and mother-of-two who sustained a "possible self-inflicted gunshot wound" after she had an argument with her boyfriend has died, according to reports.

Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputy Amanda Crowder and her boyfriend allegedly had an argument at Kung Fu Saloon on Washington Avenue in the early hours of Monday morning, according to NBC affiliate KPRC.

Crowder, 33, who was off-duty at the time, then "sustained a possible self-inflicted gunshot wound," according to HCSO Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Following the shooting, Crowder's boyfriend, a firefighter, pulled over at Houston Fire Department Station 6 on Washington Avenue for help, the network reported.

Crowder was later hospitalized with her injuries, Sheriff Gonzalez said.

Sheriff Gonzalez later confirmed in a Monday tweet that Crowder had died after from her injuries.

He said: "It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the death of our deputy. Please keep her, her family and our agency in your thoughts and prayers."

The Houston Police Department (HPD) is now carrying out an investigation into Crowder's death, sheriff Gonzalez confirmed.

Crowder joined the HCSO in 2014 and her earlier assignments there included work with patrol district 2, the special investigations division as well as a detention officer.

Sheriff Gonzalez added: "Previously, she served as a peace officer with Metro Police Department for nearly three years. She will be missed, may she rest in peace."

A GoFundMe page was set up by David Martinez following Crowder's death with money raised going towards funeral costs and help for her family.

In a Tuesday post, Martinez said: "For everyone that knew Amanda 'Mandi' Crowder, knew that her radiant smile would brighten up the darkest of rooms, and her laughter would add cheer to our worst days.

"Her love for her friends, family and two beautiful daughters were what mattered to her the most. She was known as the friend who would drop everything to help a friend out at a moment's notice and never ask for anything in return."

As of Wednesday morning, the fundraiser has amassed $14,950 of its estimated $20,000 target.

Newsweek has contacted the HPD and HCSO for comment.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 29 people in Houston have died as a result of firearm injuries so far this year.

The database found since January 1, this year, 98 people in Texas have died as a result of being shot.
