In a shock story, Chilean newspaper La Tercera have claimed that West Ham are weighing up a move for Alexis Sanchez.

The former Arsenal hero is now playing for Inter Milan, who are competing for the Serie A title, but Sanchez often finds himself starting matches on the substitutes bench.

The report claims West Ham are ready to bid £6 million for the now 33-year-old, but surely a deal would be unlikely.

West Ham are considering bidding for Alexis Sanchez, according to a report in his home country of Chile.

His best years are now certainly behind him but there is no doubting Sanchez’s quality. He has won multiple trophies at Barcelona, Arsenal and Inter as well as two Copa America’s for Chile but since his move to Man United in 2018, where he scored just three goals, he has never been a first-team regular.

It also seems a strange signing considering that West Ham manager, David Moyes, prefers to go for younger players with potential to improve, see Jarrod Bowen and Nikola Vlasic as examples of the attackers he wants. However, Sanchez has always been a hard working player with the ability to press and defend well, and also being a direct runner with the ball, this suits Moyes tactics.

The Chilean would also offer versatility, he is able to play off either flank but now spends most of his time playing in Inter’s front two as a striker. He has netted four goals this season including scoring the winner off the bench in the Italian Suppercoppa final over Juventus.

West Ham are in desperate need of a centre-forward to provide competition to Michail Antonio and come up with big moments from the bench like Sanchez has proved he can do. With him also being a player who can be used on the wing , it would give the Hammers another option especially with the club willing to listen to offers for Andriy Yarmolenko.

Despite there being some positives to the signing, it seems extremely unlikely as Sanchez would surely demand high wages too.

Newcastle are also thought to be interested according to the report.

West Ham would be a lot better targeting younger attackers. The likes of Adam Hlozek would be a better option for covering both striker and wide positions. Moyes and new Head of Recruitment, Rob Newman, are closely scouting France’s Ligue 1 division with some alternatives there.

Next. Hause to return to Hammers?. dark
