Nintendo Switch Outsells PS4 in France, to Surpass Wii by Spring 2022 - Sales

The Nintendo Switch has been a huge success for Nintendo, especially after the failure that was the Wii U. It has gone on to sell over 100 million units worldwide in less than five years and is on track to become the third best-selling gaming platform of all time by the end of the year.
The general manager of Nintendo France Philippe Lavoué speaking with Le Figaro announced the Nintendo Switch has sold 6.1 million units in France and has outsold the PlayStation 4.
The Switch is also on track to surpass the Wii this Spring and Nintendo has set a goal to sell seven million Switch units by the end of the year.
"The installed base of the Switch in France is now 6.1 million copies," said Lavoué. "It will exceed the scores of the Wii by spring, and we are aiming for a total of 7 million sales by the end of 2022. This would be a historic performance."
It will take a lot for the Switch to top the DS, which sold 12 million units in its lifetime in France.

That might be the case, with the US not far behind. Of course that's only looking at the larger gaming markets, wouldn't suprise me if there are some places in Asia where it has an even better market share.

The DS sold 10.5 million in France, not 12 actually, as said in an interview by Laouvé himself in April 2016
As I had said in similar thread of yours, the unfathoming, whopping and irrepeatable 12m figure pertains to UK, the only time when it was the biggest european Market fo Nintendo. (still though pro rata with market size, France might be biggest) Again this mistake in another interview and they word it like philip mentioned it. Wii had also sold almost 2m more there than it sold france. It's like these extra 2m bought both of them. Fun fact. 3DS has sold 1.5m+ more than what it has sold in UK and it's close to PS4 sales...
Interesting numbers, especially the last one: “7 million units by the end of the year”, that means they are expecting a big decrease in sales this year. Possibly there won’t be any price cut at all.
As a reference, the Switch sold about 1.12 million units in 2018 in France.
It would still have to sell atleast 900k this year, that's not a big decrease at all.
It is about 25% drop compared to 2021 if they actually sell 900k this year.
It will be a bit more than 900k, but a drop of about 20% is significant and what I expect the system will drop WW this year.
I think there is no need for a price cut if a console has a target to sell more than 20m worldwide within one year. But we should see a price cut in 2023.
