Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is still trying to regain his bearings after sitting out for an extended period. Aside from his stern refusal to get vaccinated against COVID-19, he also got shelved for months due to a right ankle injury he suffered in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

Irving landed on the foot of Giannis Antetokounmpo in Game 4 of the Nets' second round series against the Milwaukee Bucks. The accident ended his season and the Nets eventually lost in seven pulsating games.

But for Irving, it seems what happened wasn't an accident. In a recent interview with reporters, the Nets playmaker implied that Giannis deliberately stuck his foot out (via Open Court).

“In the playoffs last year, James (Harden) goes out. And then, I’m going up for a shot and Giannis comes over and his foot just happens to be in the way?”

Kyrie was responding to the question about the challenges the Nets have faced ever since he, Harden, and Kevin Durant banded together. Clearly, getting injured in last year's NBA Playoffs is still a frustrating topic for him. It's hard to blame him. After all, the Nets would've had a better chance of beating the Bucks if he was around.

On the flip side, Giannis is never known to be a dirty player. Even though he's very competitive, he's not one to put opponents in harm's way. So it's safe to assume he didn't intentionally hurt Irving.

Irving is no stranger to making bold remarks, and his latest against Giannis could bring more controversy for the Nets guard.
