Foyer Red – “Flipper”
Last year, the Brooklyn indie rock trio Foyer Red released their sweetly manic debut EP Zigzag Wombat, which turned a lot of heads. Since then, Foyer Red have added two more members, singer/guitarist Kristina Moore and bassist Eric Jaso. (Jaso and Foyer Red drummer Marco Ocampo also play in Hypnoluxo.) Today, Foyer Red have followed up that EP with their new single “Flipper.”

Though former Cocteau Twins vocalist Elizabeth Fraser has appeared here and there throughout the years, her new project with her partner Damon Reece marked her first real deal release in 13 years. They’ve called themselves Sun’s Signature, and their first single “Golden Air” was a beautiful reminder of what Fraser’s voice can do. Ahead of the EP’s arrival this summer, the duo have shared another new song.

Cara Delevingne played multiple roles at the Billboard Music Awards last night. Supermodel, red carpet stylist, and most of all, Megan Thee Stallion superfan.
While on the red carpet, Delevingne stood behind the superstar rapper advising her on how to pose to show off her custom gown until she eventually jumped into the shot to do it for her. The 29-year-old model lifted up Stallion’s brown and black train that draped behind her.

Madcap mastermind John Dwyer has kept up his non-stop string of releases over the past year with albums from projects like Moon Drenched and Gong Splat, which Dwyer made with a whole bunch of friends and collaborators. Today, he’s announcing a brand-new Osees album, A Foul Form, which is due out on August 12 via Castle Face Records. Lead single “Funeral Solution” is scurrying and furious. The album comes with a statement from noted fan Henry Rollins:

Goose – “Arrow”
The jammy and virtuosic Connecticut band Goose, a big pandemic-era success story, announced their new album Dripfield back in February and shared its title track. They’ve since released “Hungersite” and are now back with “Arrow.” This one starts out with a funky guitar figure and lots of raucous percussion but builds tension toward a more melancholic chorus, soaring into the space between pop and alternative rock radio like Bastille or something. Here’s what the band’s Peter Anspach has to say about it:

We’re Going To Harry’s House On This Week’s Callin Me Maybe
Harry Styles’ solo career did not immediately yield hits commensurate to his status as one of the world’s biggest pop stars; his rock-leaning self-titled debut LP was more of an album’s album than a singles machine. But in our post-Fine Line world, the former One Direction singer is now inarguably a streaming and radio force in addition to an actor, fashion plate, and professional celebrity. This Friday he’ll release his new album Harry’s House, which has already yielded a #1 hit in the indie-ish lead single “As It Was.” A few hours before that, Rachel Brodsky and I will break down the album on the latest episode of Stereogum’s weekly live podcast Callin Me Maybe. Tune in here Thursday at 4PM ET to hear us assuage or enrage entire stan armies, and while you’re there, call in with a take of your own.

Billboard Music Awards “Uncanceled The Canceled” With Morgan Wallen, Travis Scott, & Tribute To Michael Jackson
In the 32-year history of the Billboard Music Awards, I can’t remember any moment when the show had any particular agenda. The BBMAs are an also-ran awards show with no pretenses toward prestige; the show exists entirely to honor the most popular artists in the world, or at least the most popular artists who will show up for the telecast. Last night, though, that changed. Before the show, first-time host and executive producer Diddy said, “One of the things I’m doing directly is un-canceling the canceled. That’s breaking news because people haven’t been about uncanceling. But canceling is a trend that needs to stop.” To that end, Diddy made sure that the show would feature Morgan Wallen and Travis Scott, two huge stars who have suffered self-inflicted career setbacks.

Friendship – “Hank”
Last month, Friendship put out a new single, “Ugly Little Victory,” and revealed that they had signed to Merge Records, some welcome news after the Philadelphia band released two great albums, 2017’s Shock Out Of Season and 2019’s Dreamin’. Today, they’re announcing their next full-length, Love The Stranger, which will be out in July. They’re also sharing a new song from it, the rootsy and revolving “Hank,” which Friendship leader Dan Wriggins says is “a song about when you go to fix something that’s broken and realize the tools you’re supposed to fix it with are also broken.” It comes with a music video directed by comedian Joe Pera, who had this to say about teaming up with the band:
