ADRIAN — Britton Deerfield went on the road and picked up the non-league win, ending a two-game losing skid by beating Lenawee Christian, 65-48, on Tuesday.

“We had a big third quarter defensively,” said BD coach Darren Shiels. “We forced some tough shots and rebounded really well. We switched up defenses and played together. That won us the game.”

Nico Johnson scored a season-high 27 points for BD (5-2) while Logan Shiels added 16 and Mason Mueller had seven.

LCS dropped to 5-5 on the season. Tyler VanEtten had 18 points and Elliott Addleman had 10 for the Cougars.

Tecumseh 44, Madison 30: At Madison Twp., Ryder Zajac has been in double figures all season for the Tecumseh basketball team.

Tuesday, however, he hit his season high as Tecumseh went on the road to hand an aggressive Madison team a 44-30 loss.

Zajac scored 21 points, had eight steals and seven rebounds to lead Tecumseh to its fifth win of the season (5-2).

Madison led 10-5 after the first quarter. It was the largest lead it would have all night.

Zajac scored on a fast break layup to cut it to 10-9 with 5:58 left in the second quarter then Jobe Benschoter, who exited the game later with a collarbone injury, gave Tecumseh its first lead at 11-10 two minutes later.

The two teams traded baskets until Michael Benson scored on a great pass from Dominic Regalado with under 10 seconds left in the half. Zajac, however, had enough time to get a shot off from well beyond the 3-point line, giving Tecumseh a 16-14 halftime lead. It was a lead Tecumseh never relinquished.

Madison was outscored 28-16 in the second half.

Zajac, back-to-back buckets by Drew Wiedyk and a David Hunt basket keyed a third-quarter Tecumseh run.

“They were more physical than we were,” said Madison coach Erik Thompson. “They took us out of our offense and wore our guards down.”

Tecumseh forced 24 turnovers. Zajac had eight steals and Gavin Chenevey three. Both had seven rebounds.

Austin Burciaga and Benson scored six points each to lead Madison (4-3). Burciaga pulled down eight rebounds.

Adrian 72, Lakeview 61: At Battle Creek, Joe Francis and Stevie Elam combined for five 3-pointers and 55 points as Adrian got back on the winning track.

Francis scored 34 points, including 13 in the first quarter and 24 in the first half. Elam scored 21 overall, including nine in the third quarter.

Adrian is 6-3 overall.

Clinton 62, Morenci 53: At Morenci, Grant Stockford had another big night as the Redwolves won the non-league contest.

Stockford scored 26 points. Landon Busz added 11 for Clinton (5-3).

Morenci, playing for the first time since Jan. 6, was led by Bryan Bachelder’s 27 points. Jacob Reincke finished with 12. The Bulldogs are 3-4.

Blissfield 67, SMCC 54: At Monroe, the Royals got a huge game from Nick Ostas to stop St. Mary Catholic Central’s four-game winning streak.

Ostas scored a career-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Blissfield, who evened its record at 4-4.

The Falcons led 19-16 after the first quarter, but the Royals tied it by halftime then outscored SMCC 33-20 in the second half.

Owen Smith added 13 points and Chase Collyer had 12 for Blissfield.

Hudson 52, Summerfield 37: At Hudson, the Tigers have a two-game winning streak after knocking off the Bulldogs.

Ambrose Horwath scored 20 points and Kodie Kirkland had a season-high 13 for Hudson (3-6).

Ida 62, Sand Creek 32: At Sand Creek, the Bluestreaks won for the first time this season at the expense of Sand Creek.
