The Cyber Showdown event in Halo Infinite finally kicks off today, along with the expected neon customization items; it also adds a new time-limited mode called Attrition, just like how the Tenrai event adds Fiesta Slayer. Simply put, Attrition is a more tense version of the fan-favorite Slayer, with a greater emphasis on survival and teamwork. Halo Attrition is available during the entire Cyber Showdown event that runs from January 18, 2022, until January 31.
Attrition Mode in Halo Infinite Cyber Showdown Explained
As mentioned above, Attrition is a new variation of the Slayer PVP game mode with some sort of survival twist. This deathmatch pits two teams of four against each other like usual; however, each team starts with shared eight lives. You and your buddies will stop respawning once those lives have been depleted. You will then have to keep reviving any downed comrades by going to a glowy orb in the location where they died by holding down the X button on the Xbox pad or the Reload key to keep your team fighting until all members are wiped out.
The game is played in an Oddball-style best-of-three round format, with the winner being the first to win two rounds. Similar to other smaller team-based modes, Attrition can be played on:
- Aquarius
- Bazaar
- Behemoth
- Live Fire
- Recharge
- And Streets

Keep in mind that, just like previous Halo Infinite events, 10 free Event Pass rewards in Cyber Showdown are tied to Attrition matches. You unlock them one by one by completing Challenges specific to Cyber Showdown. Thankfully, similar to how it works in the Tenrai event instead of Winter Contingency, you can complete multiple Cyber Showdown Challenges each day.
10 out of your standard 20 Weekly Challenges are designated as Cyber Showdown Challenges, with objectives that can only be completed during Attrition matches. Since the event is running for two weeks, I’m sure you’ll have plenty of time to earn all of the funky neon rewards before it concludes.
