The Montreal Canadiens have used 37 different players in 38 games this season.

That means they have used 17 players in games this season that were not dressed for opening night. They have dealt with a crazy number of injuries and a Covid outbreak that pretty much took down the entire roster.

A lot of players came up for a game or two and will be lucky to ever get back in the Canadiens lineup. Other players were able to show they can handle things at the NHL level and are now more on the Canadiens radar than they have been in the past.

One of the first players called up this season was Michael Pezzetta. He was initially expected to be a depth player for the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League, but he had a terrific training camp with the Canadiens to put himself on the NHL map.

Then he started the AHL season with three goals and six points in eight games. The Canadiens then called him up to play a fourth line wing and provide energy for the NHL club that was off to a sleepy start and needed someone to wake them up.

Pezzetta, a scrappy left winger, did everything he could do to rile up the team. He battled for pucks, he worked hard, he threw hits, he forechecked and he even fought Ryan Reaves.

The 23 year old has now played 24 games this season as he hasn’t given the coaching staff a reason to send him back down to the Laval Rocket. He doesn’t do anything to hurt the team, but he also doesn’t score a lot.

He did score one tonight and it was the most Michael Pezzetta goal that will ever happen. He made a decent defensive play to turn the puck over and start an offensive rush. Then he just drove the net looking for a rebound.

He got the rebound alright. A Jake Evans shot was stopped by Jake Oettinger and it bounced up and off Pezzetta’s face before ricocheting in the net.

It was the third goal of Pezzetta’s NHL career and though it was not his prettiest goal, it was the most Michael Pezzetta goal that ever happened.
