Horror Sequel Happy Death Day 3 is Brewing

A third film in the Happy Death Day horror series is most likely in development according to big time horror producer Jason Blum.

After two successful forays into the Groundhog Day of horror films (AKA the Happy Death Day movies), director Christopher Landon has been ready for a third picture in the franchise. He’s been ready for over a year now. It has been reported that Jason Blum has officially confirmed that something is in the works regarding a Happy Death Day 3. The star of the picture, Jessica Rothe, who plays “Tree,” is only 34-years old but thinks her character in the movie could be returning even when Rothe turns 50. Given the success of the previous two films, that notion could be a definite possibility.

Happy Death Day and its sequel, Happy Death Day 2U may have only earned “B” CinemaScore grades from audiences but both films have won over a lot of fans since the first picture’s release in 2017. While the first movie earned an impressive $55 million at the domestic box-office, the sequel only earned a little more than half of that total coming in at $28 million. It doesn’t really matter, though, that the sequel underperformed. Fans of the series have grown since that second picture in the series came out and the possibility of the third film being a big hit at the box-office is still there. While the first picture had an impressive 71% Rotten Tomatoes approval rating, the second movie actually had the same exact approval rating suggesting critics are definitely not tired of the series at all yet.

Jason Blum’s exact words included the words “something is stirring” when asked about the status of the third movie in the franchise on Twitter. Fans couldn’t be more excited at the encouraging news.

The Happy Death Day pictures revolve around Jessica Rothe’s “Tree” character constantly waking up on the same day on which she was killed. While the second film in the series added some science fiction elements to the horror of the story line, the sequel turned out to be very entertaining and everything fans of the first movie had come to expect.

There is also the issue of the immensely popular “Babyface” mask which has been seen worn by killers in both of the previous films. We don’t know if it will make its appearance in the third movie but since the project is just in development at this point, there’s a lot more time before we’ll know what exactly the plot of the third movie will entail. Jessica Rothe will most likely be back as the movie truly revolves around her and she is an essential piece of the success of the franchise.
