An emergency alert meant to be a "test" had many people Googling to find out where Gotham City, Mo., is.
The message the Missouri State Highway Patrol sent out late Tuesday afternoon said, "Gotham City MO purple/green 1978 Dodge 3700GT MO UKIDME."
It's a reference to the fictional hometown of Batman and the color and make and model of the Joker's car.
About 10 minutes after the first alert, the patrol sent a second one, saying "The previous alert was a test. This is a cancelation of the blue alert test."
Many commenting on social media said they got a kick out of the mistake, and it put a smile on their face.
On Tuesday evening, the patrol sent out the following news release explaining the situation:
Today, a routine test of Missouri’s Blue Alert system was inadvertently sent to wireless devices statewide. The Patrol regularly tests the Blue Alert system to ensure it works properly when needed. During the test, an option was incorrectly selected, allowing the message to be disseminated to the public. There is no Emergency Alert at this time. The Patrol appreciates the public’s understanding and support of the Emergency Alert program.
