PORTLAND, Ore. — A handful of kids walked out of Grant High School on Tuesday in protest of what they call unsafe coronavirus practices on the school’s campus.
One student tells KATU News the campus is overcrowded and not enough people are wearing masks, making it difficult to safely navigate hallways and stairwells.
“We need to be able to access our classrooms safely, and there is no way for me to be able to social distance, from other people,” said student Calliope Ruskin. “My mom is immunocompromised, there is no way to protect myself at school.”
Students say they also want mandatory KN95 masks for everyone, and to have them made available to students, along with more COVID-19 testing.
KATU News reached out to Portland Public Schools for a response, however, we've yet to hear back.
