Charles Barkley criticizes Sixers for being stupid for not moving Ben Simmons

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Charles Barkley spent eight seasons as a member of the Philadelphia 76ers and left a huge legacy. He averaged 23.3 points and 11.6 rebounds during his Philly career, and his No. 34 jersey hangs in the Wells Fargo Center, honoring his contributions.

Lately, Barkley has taken a number of shots at the Sixers — specifically Joel Embiid — but he has turned his attention to the Ben Simmons situation. The 25-year-old three-time All-Star has not played for the Sixers, even though the team is 43 games into the 2021-22 season. Simmons is content to sit out the season if he doesn’t get what he wants: a trade out of town by the Feb. 10 deadline.

Barkley was recently asked by TMZ Sports what he thinks of the situation, and he called out the Sixers for being too stubborn in the trading process for Simmons:

There’s some good trades out there, but the Sixers are being stubborn and wasting Joel Embiid’s great season. They’re just being stupid. Just being stupid.

While a lot of people believe the Sixers are wasting Embiid — which, given his injury history, no one know just how many prime years he has — the fact remains the big fella is on board with what is going on.

The Sixers remain confident they can nab that top 25 player in exchange for Simmons in the offseason. They have their eyes set on James Harden, or someone like him, and they are not going to give in or settle for just anything for one of the game’s bright stars.
