Police mental health wellness checks could become mandatory

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) —
A newly proposed Illinois bill would make police mental health wellness checks mandatory.

Filed by Representative Deb Conroy last week, the new bill would require the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board to establish regular mandatory annual mental health wellness checks for probationary and permanent police officers.
Those wellness checks would be provided through the law enforcement agency's health insurance carrier at no cost.
