Fox 61 reported that Kerry Lyn Caviasca has been charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor and two counts of non-reckless endangerment for leaving the children for two days and two nights while she went out of state.

Police said Caviasca was responsible for the minors though it is unclear what her relationship is to the two children, both of whom are under 12 years old.

Caviasca is listed on the Waterbury School District’s website as an employee but Fox 61 confirmed she is “currently on leave pending allegations.”

On Monday, Waterbury School District released a statement about the incident.

"Waterbury Public Schools has been informed of a pending allegation regarding a Waterbury Public School staff member. The alleged actions do not represent the values of our district. The teacher has been placed on leave while the District conducts an investigation."

Caviasca was released on $5,000 bond. Her next court appearance is set for Jan. 25.
