Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, Filip Král, is heating up!  The defenseman scored two goals and six points in four games last week for the Toronto Marlies and was awarded as the AHL’s Player of the Week.  He is also on a five game point streak.

Filip Král, who was an honorable mention on the EIL Toronto Maple Leafs Top 10 Prospect List before the season started,  is enjoying his first full season in the AHL with two goals and 14 points in 27 games so far in his rookie season.  He played 10 games with the Marlies last season registering two goals but spent the majority of his time with HC Kometa Brno in the Czech Extraliga where he put up 21 points in 48 games. Filip Král was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 5th round (149th overall) in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.  Král moved from his native Czech Republic to join the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL the season before he was drafted by Toronto.

During his third and final season with Spokane in 2019-20, Filip Král tallied 49 points in 53 games which earned him a three-year entry-level contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs in April 2020.

Another member of the Toronto Marlies who was on a recent reign of terror was their new PTO signing, Joseph Blandisi, who scored two goals and five points in his first five games with the Marlies after signing his PTO on December 14th.  Blandisi has since cooled off a little bit going pointless in his last two games.

Originally drafted in the 6th round (162nd overall) by the Colorado Avalanche during the 2012 NHL draft, Joseph Blandisi has bounced around the NHL and AHL playing 101 NHL games with the New Jersey Devils, Anaheim Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins.  He spent last season with the AHL’s Laval Rocket (affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens) where he scored 10 goals and 21 points in 28 games.

Marlies defenseman, Joseph Duszak, is currently ranked second in points by AHL defenseman with 22 points in 20 games.  He trails Jordan Gross of the Colorado Ealges (Colorado Avalanche affiliate) who has 25 points in 25 games.

Alex Steeves is among the AHL’s rookie scoring leaders so far this season with 11 goals and 20 points in 20 games.  He’s ranked 15th in rookie scoring though most of the players ahead of him have played around 30 games.  Steeves missed some time due to injury and a call-up to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he registered one assist in three NHL games.
