While he might not have gotten his name on the scoresheet on his Celtic debut, like Daizen Maeda did, it is safe to say that Reo Hatate’s performance in the game against Hibernian has left the fans buzzing about what is to come from the Japanese midfielder. It is safe to say that he was absolutely spectacular at Parkhead and has caught the attention of many already.

There had been claims that while the signing of Maeda had grabbed the headlines, it was Hatate who had the higher ceiling, and one could see why after last night’s game.

Of course, it is too early to judge how good he is but he showed enough against Hibernian to prove that he has enough technical ability to be a success at Celtic and in Scottish football. Now, it is about how he uses his talents moving forward.

Ange Postecoglou seems to have no doubt in his mind about the new Celtic signing though. As reported by The Scotsman, when asked what Hatate will bring to the table for the Hoops, the manager said:

"“Plenty more.“When you get to know him he is a very, very determined young man. He shows signs of reaching the very top of the game. He will come off the pitch tonight knowing he did okay and performed at a level.“But he will want more. That’s the kind of character and personality he is. He doesn’t just want to enjoy the ride, he has some sights and ambition to be the best player he can be and reach the top. You saw some of his quality tonight, but there is definitely more to come.”"

Postecoglou makes exciting claim about Hatate after his Celtic debut

It is safe to say that this is was a brilliant debut on the part of Hatate and while it was Maeda who scored on this occasion, the Japanese midfielder might have been able to get more of the shine from this performance.

Of course, the match is already in the past and it is time to look towards the future. There are many players who have made brilliant starts at Celtic only to fade away later on and now, Hatate has to make sure that he does not turn out to be one of those players.

As far as debuts go, Hatate’s one was as impressive as any other in recent times for Celtic. Hopefully, he will continue in the same vein of form moving forward.
