Porsche Announces 2022 Cayenne Platinum Edition and 911 50 Years Edition Porsche Design

This week, Porsche unveiled Platinum variants for its Cayenne SUV and the 911 50 Years Porsche Design.

The Platinum segment is the company's badging for increasing the standard tech and buyers' comfort features.

The new 911 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the founding of Porsche Design in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, designer of the 911, son of Ferry Porsche and grandson of Porsche founder Ferdinand Porsche.

2022 Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition

Over the weekend, Porsche announced the Platinum Edition of its Cayenne SUV in standard Cayenne, E-Hybrid, Cayenne S and Coupe models.

The Platinum Editions come with a number of styling tweaks, including air intakes on the front fascia and the Porsche logo integrated into the LED taillight. LED headlights with Porsche Dynamic Light System come standard.

Sport tailpipes and high-gloss black are also standard.

Cayenne Platinum Editions can be ordered in solid white or black. Metallic trims of Jet Black, Carrara White, Mahogany, Moonlight Blue are also available. A Chalk metallic trim is available by special order.

RS Spyder Design 21-inch wheels in Satin Platinum are standard and only available on Platinum Edition models.

The base Cayenne is powered by a turbo V6 that supplies 355 horsepower. The E-Hybrid variant pairs a turbocharged V6 and an electric motor to put out 455 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

The interior also comes with some style tweaks, including brushed aluminum door sill guards with a "Platinum Edition" designation. The interior package is textured in aluminum throughout.

The Platinum Edition comes standard with eight-way adjustable sport seats, Porsche crests on the front and rear headrests, ambient lighting and a Bose Surround Sound system.

Additional customization options are available through Porsche Manufaktur.

Cayenne Platinum Edition models are available for order now. Prices start at $79,000 and top out at $93,800. A base Cayenne starts at $69,000.

2022 Porsche 911 50 Years Edition Porsche Design

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Porsche Design, the company is releasing a 911 that is based on a 911 Targa 4 GTS.

All of the models that Porsche plans on making will be finished in black to acknowledge Porsche Design's Chronographic 1.

The 20/21-inch center-locking 911 Turbo S wheels, Targa bar, and Porsche Design logos on the doors are finished in Satin Platinum, while the brake calipers are high-gloss black.

A "50 Years Porsche Design" badge is fixed to the grille.

A limited number of the 50 Years Edition will be made, signified by a silver numbered badge on the dashboard.

The center console lid will bear the signature of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche.

Also special to this model's interior are Sport-Tex seat centers with a black and cool grey checkered pattern, a 50 Years Porsche Design logo embossed in the headrests and a center marker on a Slate Grey GT Sport steering wheel.

The 18-way Adaptive Sport Seats Plus, Slate Grey seat belts and a Porsche Design subsecond clock with a red second hand are also standard.

Powering this limited edition model is a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission combined to deliver 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. That comes standard with all-wheel drive.

A seven-speed manual transmission with a mechanically locking rear differential is available at no extra cost.

Two new watches are being sold in conjunction with the new 911: the Chronograph 1 – 911 50 Years of Porsche Design and the Chronograph 1 -1972 Limited Edition.

The car and the 911 50 Years of Porsche Design watch will be sold together for an MSRP of $195,850, not including $1,350 in destination fees. Both the car and watch have been limited to 750 units.

The 1972 limited edition watch retails for $7,700. Only 500 units will be made.

The 911 50 Years Edition Porsche Design is scheduled to arrive at U.S. dealerships in spring 2022.
