The eighth episode of the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy arrives on Paramount+ this week. We have details and photos to get you started.
“Time Amok”
Following last week’s “First Con-tact,” Prodigy once again has an episode that plays on a previous title, in this case, the classic Star Trek episode “Amok Time.” Prodigy’s “Time Amoke” debuts on Paramount+ on Thursday, January 20.
Synopsis:
When the U.S.S. Protostar is fractured in time by an anomaly, Hologram Janeway must synchronize the disjointed crew and save their ship before it destructs.

Discovery is back in February
Episode 407 of Star Trek: Discovery was a mid-season finale. The series will return with episode 408 on February 10.
Discovery is on a brief hiatus
New episodes of Prodigy premiere on Thursdays on Paramount+ in the U.S. and on CTV Sci-Fi Channel in Canada, where it’s also available to stream on Crave. It is available on Paramount+ in Latin American, the Nordic Countries, and Australia. It will debut later in 2022 in parts of Europe with the launch of the Paramouint+ Sky partnership.

Goody! Sounds like a classic trippy temporal anomaly story. Love those and Voyager did them in droves. It’s fitting its spin off show is finally doing one. The synopsis reads a bit like the episode, ‘Shattered’, one of their better ones. Can’t wait to see it now.
Hoping we get a little more about Chakotay as well.
Not sure that it is fair or correct to call Prodigy a Voyager spin off. It is its own show with its own identity. Sure it has Janeway but DS9 had O’Brian and wasn’t a TNG spin off. Also pretty sure they are in the gamma quadrant now
I was only speaking in general because of the Janeway and Delta quadrant connection obviously. Prodigy is definitely it’s own show, but Voyager is its closest kin like Picard is to TNG. But I guess Picard is more of a sequel to TNG?
And ALL these shows are called spin off shows but they have all been unique to each other. TNG was probably the only true ‘spin off’ from TOS and that’s only because it took place on another Enterprise a century later. DS9 is considered a spin off to TNG and there is no direct connection other than taking place in the same time period mostly and O’Brien joining the show. Voyager and definitely Enterprise were completely their own shows as well.
But thinking about it, Star Trek doesn’t have traditional spin off shows the way we think of one.
You could probably consider Strange New Worlds a spin off show of Discovery since the main characters (in their current iteration, of course not forgetting TOS) debuted there.
Also, if the Section 31 show ever gets made, it’s probably also a spin off of Discovery.
I can agree with that. SNW is probably the most traditional spin off of any Star Trek show because all the main characters from it came out of that one as you said. Yeah they existed before obviously but we are talking specifically these actors and their character backstories that was developed through Discovery.
And the last episode made it clear they were still in the Delta quadrant when they ran into Nandi. I thought maybe they made it to the Gamma quadrant too but that wasn’t the case.
I’ve always considered DS9 a spin-off of TNG more than TOS. It is set in the same time period. Its premise hinges on events created by TNG. It shares 1 main cast member right off the bat, then another in season 4. Guest characters introduced in TNG pop up every season.
Funny how the animated shows simply deliver on the tropes of old Trek that everyone kind of wants and expects to see while the live action ones struggle to find their pace, focus and narrative style.
For those of us legacy fans who grew up on episodic TV, I agree that the animated shows are absolutely delivering. Meanwhile the live-action shows continue to remain serialized and that alienates many.
That said, I think Discovery S4 is absolutely finding its place within the Trek universe and with the fans like myself. I am also really looking forward to both Picard S2 and SNW.
Timely-wimey Trek it is!
Really looking forward to this one. With only two more episodes after this one to wrap up the first 10 episode arc, this promises to be one that covers a fair bit of expository ground and starts to wrap up some of the big plot and character arcs.
I wonder if this will go someway to explaining how The Diviner was searching for the Protostar 17 years before the series started despite the ship clearly having a post-Voyager launch (Chakotay in command definitely points to this).
