Something didnt feel right when she returned 7 years ago. she still doesn't fit in today, Ben favours phil and the mitchell name, too busy and he doesn't need her, Pam was more of a comfort to him than his own mum. It should have been her he was crying too.

In 1985 she had a big family and a lot of friends and there was, Pete, Pauline, Arthur, Michelle, Angie, Pat etc for her to socialise with.

When Martin went homeless, i dont understand why he went to sharon instead of Kathy, his family.

Peter and Kathy theres nothing there either other than the fact he calls her nan. No heart to hearts, or home truths, she should be telling him off about how arrogant he has been lately

Phil acts like he and kathy never were a couple, he actually loved her at one point but they are not even friends or even enemies, they are nothing. He treats her like she's just one of his temporary ex's like shes lisa fowler, theres no heart there when they were more than that, phil and kathy would have made great friends.

She should be the head of the family, even Jane was a miles better matriarch of the family and connected with the family members individually. Before the lucy situation.

They need to bring back the Hills, so she is not completely useless

She is such a weak-willed, useless individual. The fact both her sons; have been responsible for a lot of the havoc that has descended on Albert Square these past couple of years, including by how one of her sons left the other to die, signifies what a terrible mother she is, as she doesn’t shout loud enough, for anyone to listen to her. She and Ben are practically strangers to eachother, as he NEVER listens to her, when once in a blue moon, she does decide to have a word with that human scrotum, and she simply shrugged off the idea of one of her sons playing party in an attack on the other. Shes had plenty of opportunities to rise to the challenge of becoming an EE matriarch in the past few years, but she’s failed at every turn.

I agree Kathy needs.to be more of a Matriarch, not in the battleaxe style of Lou, but she seems to want to be a friend to her grandkids instead of a Grandmother, giving advice and being a shoulder to cry on.

Callum should have been speaking to Kathy about Ben (she is his Mother in Law), asking her to check on Ben, instead we got the angry potato on Parental duties (as usual 🙄), and that was only because he wanted to talk about the businesses, and all he did was basically tell him to pull himself together!

Ben should be confiding in his Mother, not his dead boyfriends granny!

Agree Kathy needs some friends on the square to hang round with, but no to the Hills return, they were boring.

For me, the biggest crime DTC made was having Kathy return without a long term plan unlike Dirty Den return in 2003, who dominated the show for 1.5yrs and another year following his death. What came after with the retcons and Gavin was even worse.

Kathy's entrance was met with a whimper with weird fan fiction followed up by a character now without a purpose in the show who doesn't even acknowledge her own children.

They have a massive Patricia shaped hole in the show, which Kathy could fill, but they’ve not quite managed it.

They need to give her some family - would be nice to see Sarah Hills again. It could even pave way for the return of Irene as her mum.

Gillian is an EE legend and deserves to be more centre stage. I guess it’s just a shame they’ve killed off most of her generation.

For me she's one of the few characters who's come out of this era pretty much unscathed, which is an achievement in itself. There's still the sense that she can be far more than she is, though. Seven years on and we've still had no real exploration of her relationship with Ben or anything that happened to her when she was "dead" - these stories are just begging to be told and with Zack now around there's a perfect opportunity to do it.

She desperately needs a friend she can have a drink and a laugh with from time to time. I thought Sheree would have been the perfect choice before they turned her into a bitter control freak.

I should be more bothered about her and Phil's lack of acknowledgement of each other than I actually am. He's now written totally differently to when they were together and would just drag her down.

I don’t think it’s that surprising Martin didn’t go to Kathy for help given her & pete divorced when he was just three - I wouldn’t consider my uncles ex wife family & Id probably find it even stranger considering they’ve barely had any interaction since Kathy’s been back. And honestly I actually find her relationship with Phil normal between exes though Kathy of old would be horrified by how Phils turned out but then so would Sharon, but that’s just how it is. Saying that Kathy’s return has been nothing short of a disappointment, as delighted as I was when she came back I’m not really sure why they bothered.

I can see why no one wants to be friends with her - if she pops out for some milk there's a 50/50 chance on whether she's coming back or faking her death for another decade. Let alone her grandson is the hardest piece of work on the square, and her son is a scumbag human trafficker.

    Thanks.

It's been one of the most pointless returns in soap history - they did it for the moment, not the long term potential. Can't believe it's 7 years too.

Kathy has been a watered down version of her former self ever since she returned. The character was much sharper and much more assertive in the 80s and 90s; she had a strong moral compass and was certainly no pushover.

Realistically, Kathy would be disgusted and ashamed by Ben's violent and criminal behaviour. But then EastEnders is fundamentally uninterested in exploring family relationships, and this is especially bad when it comes to the Beales.

She fits in pretty well IMO. Her comeback was horrendous, but now it's done and dusted. She's back and once again part of the square.

What doesn't help is that Bobby is the only decent member of her remaining family. Ian, Ben & Peter are all horrible people so it's hard for her to relate to them.

They really need an older female for her to be friends with

Bring back Irene Raymond. You know it makes sense

Kathy's former sister in law, and they didn't get on.

Irene was a fab character, however.

Irene was a fantastic character, one of my favourites, but I think I'd rather remember her as she was. They'd likely struggle to write for a character like her these days - she was deceptively complex - and turn her into a caricature.

As an original character Kathy should be a much bigger character than she actually is but something is missing and I am not sure what it is

Kathy is 71 but looks much younger, it would be nice to see her have friends her own age but there are none on the Square at the moment

Kathy was a good character when she was married to Pete. When there was Arthur, Pauline and Lou. Kathy worked on the fruit stall with Pete and she helped out behind the bar at the Queen Vic. But that was then and this is now.
Kathy's character has got lost down the way and now she's just there not with much purpose.

Kathy and Sharon could become friends now that Sharon is no longer with Phil..it worked ok when Kathy helped Sharon when she was in labour with Albie.

There could be stories written were Kathy doesn't have to keep saying oh Ian, oh Peter, oh Bobby, like they are a disappointment. It is so boring. The only time she is happy is when she has a relationship then that goes pear shaped and it goes back to her being boring again. I think her and Sharon could have some fun.

Don't think it would work with Pam as I think they would clash regarding what's best for Ben. It's the only thing they have in common.

    The Hills
    The current Beales.
A few friends for her (new and current).
    A new man.

Make her head of the family with keeping the family in line with a strong male lead. A few returns and links to the old stories.

Given her history, she should definitely be the agony Aunt of EE.

She should also tag along with Jean and Shirley.

I like Kathy but I find her overrated at the same time. She hasn’t done anything interesting since returning 7 years ago, even her comeback storyline with Gavin was a fail.

I think we all know they wouldn't due to Abi.

I love that Kathy is a great gran.

Actually I think they would, to be honest Abi isn't really Kathy's Great Grand Daughter as Steven was not Ian's biological Son.

Ahhh poor Kathy and I mean that genuinely.

Her friends and close family of her own age have mainly passed away which is very sad in it self.

Maybe she'll make things up at some level with Tom?
