The Greene County Sheriff's Office arrested a woman Friday after her baby tested positive for meth, KATV content partner KAIT Region 8 News reported.
Deputies were called to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital after an 11-month-old was brought to the emergency room for a possible case of COVID-19, court documents stated. When the hospital staff began to draw blood for testing, the infant's father, Charles Walker, reportedly walked out of the hospital.
The documents stated that when the bloodwork came back positive for meth, hospital staff told the baby mother, Brittany Walker, 27, of Paragould, they would have to call DHS. Walker then asked the staff to watch the child while she went to the parking lot to tell her husband. When she returned, staff reportedly tested her for meth and she tested positive.
The sheriff's office said Walker was then arrested. Deputies reportedly searched for her husband but were unable to locate him.
After reviewing the affidavit, Greene County District Court Judge Daniel Stidham found probable cause to charge Brittany Walker with first-degree child endangerment, introduction of a controlled substance into the body of another person, and exposing a child to a chemical substance or methamphetamine.
Her bond was set at $25,000. She was being held in the Greene County jail.
