HARRISBURG – Maizy Mathis placed second and Maya Erickson third at the Harrisburg girls’ wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Mathis won two of her three matches at 190 pounds, withher lone loss coming against West Lyon’s Jana Terwee by a 46-second pinfall. Mathis’ two wins were both by fall.
Erickson picked up three wins in five matches in the six-team round robin format at 154 pounds. Erickson scored two pins and a win by major decision, with her two defeats being by fall and an overtime loss.
Riley Weisbeck finished 1-2 overall at 120 pounds. After receiving an opening-round bye, Weisbeck earned a 26-second pin to move into the semifinals where she was pinned in 4:24. In her consolation semifinal match, Weisbeck fell to Harrisburg’s Susu Kamara in 4:16 to close her tournament.
Cierra Strand finished 2-2 at 126 pounds. She was defeated in her opening match, then after receiving a bye, won her second and third round consolation matches by 7-0 decision and fall, respectively. Strand was eliminated in the consolation semifinals by Beresford/Alcester-Hudson’s Reese Olson by pin in 3:29.
Saige Hinricher rounded out the Bobcat wrestling contingent, finishing with a 3-2 record at 142 pounds. She opened with a forfeit win, then was pinned in the quarterfinals. In both the second and third round of the consolation bracket, Hinricher earned wins by fall, but was eliminated in the consolation semifinals by pinfall at the hands of Pierre’s Abbigail Lewis in 2:28.
