NJ woman dies after vehicle falls down embankment at retirement community

NORTH HALEDON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A woman died after she was ejected from a vehicle when it fell down an embankment in North Haledon early Monday morning, police said. The woman was identified by police as 54-year-old Merita Ziba of Wayne.

The incident occurred at Holland Christian Home, a Graham Avenue retirement community in North Haledon in Passaic County.

Two phone calls from two different callers came in at 5:38 a.m. about the accident, police said. When authorities arrived at the scene, they found Ziba and attempted CPR on her with a nurse who works at the facility. Paterson EMS then arrived, continued CPR and transported Ziba to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson where she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, there are no known witnesses to the incident and anyone with information is being asked to contact the North Haledon Detective Bureau at (973) 423-1111.
