Bold & Beautiful Just Suggested That Maybe Deacon Has Even More Screws Loose Than Sheila — Here’s How

Call us crazy, but his pursuit of Brooke makes no sense.
Look, we here at Soaps.com love love. But the way that The Bold and the Beautiful is writing Deacon’s renewed affection for Brooke might just deserve a nomination for Biggest Head-Scratcher of All Time.
It’s not that we don’t believe that Hope’s daddy wants her mommy. Especially the way that Sean Kanan plays his character’s yearning, we totally buy it. But how screwy does Deacon have to be to think that he has a shot with her?
The guy’s an ex-con who’s upended Brooke’s life on more than one occasion. He’s broke. His only friend is L.A.’s premier poster gal for mental instability and homicidal tendencies. Yes, he’s handsome. Yes, he’s charming. Yes, he’s great in the sack (or so we’re led to believe). But in what world would a married millionaire like Brooke dump her rich, occasionally devoted husband for Deacon?
It is, in a word, silly.

That’s not to say that the actors don’t sell it, that there aren’t moments when we almost want it to happen, too. However, it would be nice if the show made it make sense. If Deacon really wants Brooke back, why hasn’t he taken steps to turn himself into the kind of man he must know in his heart of hearts she deserves? Instead of doing shots with his fellow alcoholic, he could’ve been…
Well, anything else, for starters. But he could’ve been working his way up to manager at Il Giardino. (Free breadsticks would be quite an enticement.) He could’ve been figuring out ways to help fellow ex-cons start over and stay on the straight and narrow. He could’ve been…
Eh, you know what? It would still be nutty of Deacon to dream of a future with Brooke. Then again, there was a time when we might’ve said the same thing about a cater waiter like Brooke imagining herself as Mrs. Ridge Forrester, and look how that turned out.

But once she got a gander at the bad boy’s abs, their intense conversation devolved into pillow talk, after which the discount Casanova agreed not to tell the world that she was having her son-in-law’s baby — hi, Hope! — for a price, of course.</p>

<p>In 2003, Deacon appeared to be turning his life around. Not only did he kick the bottle for the sake of his and Brooke’s daughter, Hope, he fell in love with fellow alcoholic Macy Alexander. Alas, his new beginning had the unhappiest of endings. <p>It didn’t much matter to Deacon that old flame Amber had fallen in love with Daniel Romalotti. The rat fink wanted to make her his bride, and that was that. So he blackmailed her into an “altared” state and hoped that she’d grow fonder of him over time. Spoiler alert: She did not, as he could have predicted if only he’d gazed even in passing at her expression. Mind you, Deacon was <em>still</em> just getting warmed up.</p>

<p>Nikki wasn’t paroled from her unholy union with Deacon until it was revealed that Victoria hadn’t offed her sometime stepmother, Diane Jenkins, Mom had, but it had been in self-defense. Except that no, Nikki hadn’t done it, either, it had been Paul Williams’ off-her-rocker sister, Patty. Or so we think. Honestly, by the time this plot was done twisting, we were so over it, Mr. Kitty could’ve done it for all we cared!</p>

<p>Sure, Deacon wanted an annulment from Quinn. But it was nonetheless a shock and a half for him to find her shacked up with an amnesiac Liam (who actually bought that their names were Adam and Eve, the poor thing). Desperate to keep Deacon from upsetting her happy home — no matter how fictional it was! — Quinn went so far as to push him off a cliff. “Consider that a divorce,” she somehow refrained from quipping in her best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice.</p>

<p>In 2022, <em>Young & Restless</em> revealed that Deacon wasn’t nearly as upset about Diane Jenkins’ untimely demise as he’d appeared 11 years prior. Mainly because he’d helped her fake it so that she could run away from Genoa City and everyone there who hated her. In other words, everyone there.</p>

<p>Thanks to Sheila’s shenanigans, Deacon convinced himself for a moment that he had a snowball’s chance in hell of rekindling his romance with babymama Brooke. It was a lot like the way that Taylor Hayes convinced herself for a moment that this time, Ridge Forrester was going to not only turn to but stick with her.</p>

<p>Despite being an impoverished waiter with a criminal record, Deacon managed to find enough change in his sofa cushions to buy Il Giardino. Maybe it was cheaper than it otherwise would’ve been after Sheila had shot son Finn Finnegan and daughter-in-law Steffy Forrester in the back alley.</p>

<p>Deacon was free and clear of Sheila when she became engaged to filthy-rich Bill Spencer. But the weird thing was, he didn’t altogether <em>want</em> to be free and clear of her. So they schtupped behind her fiancé’s back until Deacon finally delayed his secret lover’s great escape for long enough to deliver her to the tag team of Bill, Ridge and the feds.</p>

<p>In the aftermath of Sheilagate, Deacon helped the madwoman… Wait, <em>what</em>? First he assisted in the effort to get her jailed, then he got her <em>sprung</em>? “Dude, WTH?” we were dying to say (and “H” wouldn’t have been the last letter, either!). Naturally — ’cause at that point, why not? — he got engaged to L.A.’s Lizzie Borden.</p>

<p>As any sane person would, upon learning of Deacon’s commitment to Sheila, Hope wondered aloud — and <em>loudly</em> — whether her old man needed to be committed himself… to a mental hospital. But wouldn’t be dissuaded, not even by his daughter’s refusal to let him play a part in her or his grandkids’ lives so long as he was with Sheila. At least at <em>first</em> he wouldn’t be dissuaded.</p>
