Iconic Japanese sports cars aren’t always as celebrated as their counterparts from other regions. Still, cars like the Toyota 2000GT, the Mazda Cosmo, and the Miata are all landmarks of the industry. None of them though can attest to having the same modern-day impact as the super-rare NISMO 400R which was based on the R33 Nissan Skyline GT-R. Now, the car that finished off the production run of just 40 units is available for sale.

The 400R is rarer than every car mentioned above by some margin and, being much newer, it’s far more powerful too. Under the hood is a 2.8-liter RB engine, codenamed RB-X GT2. This is a REINIK-built competition motor with a pair of turbos and a total output of 400-horsepower. Still, there’s a lot more to this car than just a special engine.

Skyline buyers are especially interested in specific paint colors and while Midnight Purple might be the most famous of those shades, this Deep Marine Blue isn’t far behind. In fact, it’s the last GT-R V-Spec in this color making it that much rarer. In addition, of the 40 original cars, just 19 units of the 400R have been confirmed to still exist today.

We should also make note of the fact that many of the special 400R-only NISMO parts featured on these cars are unobtainable on their own. NISMO and Nissan never sold them part by part in the aftermarket or as add-ons for other Skyline owners. This sports car is super-rare, very quick, and historically important because it set the bar for the future of the GT-R nameplate.

This very special 400R has been listed for £1,600,000 or $2,183,224 in current exchange rates. That’s a serious price but then again, this is a serious collector car.
