Rockstar Parent Company Dismisses 'GTA Trilogy' Bugs As A Single "Glitch"

The math isn't mathing.

Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games and the publisher of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, has said that the issues with that set of remasters were caused by a single glitch.

That is one exceedingly powerful glitch to affect three separate titles and give rise to a range of different bugs that drove gamers round the bend. It's on the level of the Y2K bug, surely. Should we be concerned? That something of such potency was developed and let into the world under the cover of a set of classic remastered games? No, not in the slightest, said Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick in an interview with CNBC last week.

Here are a selection of the funniest glitches - excuse me, glitch, singular - from the remasters!

"We did have a glitch in the beginning, that glitch was resolved. And the title has done just great for the company. So we’re very excited," replied Zelnick in a question about the state of the Definitive Edition upon its release. "We have an amazing pipeline going forward. Zynga has an incredible pipeline going forward. And together, we think we can do a whole lot more than what’s already been announced."

Well, the word on the street is that the issues aren't actually resolved yet. And the damage done to the original feeling of playing the classic versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas hasn't incurred a lot of faith and good will towards Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive. Consider the rumour that there's a remaster of Red Dead Redemption on its way. Before the Definitive Edition hit the shelves, fans were extremely excited to see the game get a new lease of life. After the remasters snagged the title of the worst game of 2021 and the dust settled on the subreddits, players have got everything crossed in the hope that this rumour is simply a rumour.

Seemingly, Take-Two Interactive sees this to be ancient history, and I suppose they've got a point. Anyone else want to cast their minds back to last year? I didn't think so. Besides, the company is over the moon that it's acquired Zynga and aims to use its unique expertise to bring Grand Theft Auto to mobile platforms.
