What to expect from Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix
Fans of Vikings and Scandinavian history have lots to look forward to in the upcoming Netflix original series Vikings: Valhalla. The new series, spinning off from the 2013 series Vikings, is based in part on true events.

What is Vikings: Valhalla about?
Set in the 11th century, Vikings: Valhalla tells the story of famous Vikings of history. These include legendary explorer Leif Eriksson, his headstrong sister Freydis Eriksdotter, and the ambitious Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson.
The series will explore tensions between the Vikings and the English royals, with the Vikings seeking revenge after the St. Brice’s Day Massacre, in which King Aethelred II orders all Danes on his lands killed.

Meanwhile, the Vikings also face internal clashes over their Christian and pagan beliefs.
The three Vikings above will begin an epic journey across oceans, fighting battles from Kattegat to England and beyond, on their ongoing quest for glory.
“Now is our time to make history,” says a voiceover in the first teaser released by Netflix.
How is Vikings: Valhalla related to the previous Vikings series?
Fans of the series Vikings, which ran from 2013 to 2021, may be happy to learn that Vikings: Valhalla is indeed a continuation of that series. Don’t expect any familiar faces, though.
That’s because Vikings Valhalla is set over 100 years after the events of Vikings. While we may see some throwbacks and nods to the original series, this is all new territory. Valhalla covers different characters in new parts of the world during a new historical period.

The original series, which aired on the Canadian cable network History, told the partially true story of legendary Viking chieftain Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew and family, based on the 13th-century sagas Ragnars saga Loðbrókar and Ragnarssona þáttr, as well as other historical sources and oral traditions.
You can currently watch all six seasons of Vikings on Peacock, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.
When and where can I watch Vikings: Valhalla?
Vikings Valhalla will launch on February 25.
It will stream globally on Netflix in every country and territory where the service is available.
The streamer ordered 24 episodes of the new show, with eight of those episodes comprising the first season.
We can thus expect further seasons of Vikings: Valhalla, though no word yet on when they might premiere.
Who’s involved?
Vikings: Valhalla stars Sam Corlett as Leif Eriksson, Frida Gustavsson as his sister Freydis Eriksdotter, and Leo Suter as the Nordic prince Harald Sigurdsson.
It also stars Bradley Freegard, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Caroline Henderson, Laura Berlin, and David Oakes.
The new series comes from showrunner and executive producer Jeb Stuart, with Vikings creator Michael Hirst also executive producing.
Executive producers joining Stuart and Hirst are Morgan O’Sullivan, Sheila Hockin, Steve Stark, James Flynn, John Weber, Sherry Marsh, Alan Gasmer, and Paul Buccieri.
