Hawai’i Opera Theatre has announced the postponement of its “Re-Emerging: HOT Live in Concert.”

Originally slated for January 28 and 30, the concert will now be held on March 11 and 13, 2022, at the Blasidell Concert Hall. The concert was meant to open HOT’s 2022 season, celebrating beloved works of opera and musical theatre with a program inspired by themes of hope and overcoming, and directed by Jamie Offenbach. Artists from HOT’s Mae Z. Orvis Opera Studio will appear alongside mezzo-soprano and local-favorite Blythe Iakuinipua’okahana Kelsey.

The decision comes following Mayor Rick Blangiardi latest announcement concerning capacity restrictions for large, indoor events.

“We take our role within the community as shepherds of live performance very seriously. While we are eager to see opera return to the mainstage, welcoming audiences and artists back safely remains our utmost concern,” says Andrew Morgan, HOT’s General Director. “After much thought and consideration, postponing the Re-Emerging concert is the best way to maintain our plans for a season of live performances.”

The company is set to open their season with their second production, “The Tragedy of Carmen,” on February 18 and 20.
