Bryan Harsin needed to address his quarterback situation heading into Year Two on the Plains. The Auburn Tigers were up and down on the position all year between Bo Nix and TJ Finley. The head coach has been able to work the transfer portal, with his second quarterback commitment of the cycle coming on Monday night.

Oregon’s Robby Ashford announced he would be transferring to Auburn after two seasons in Eugene. He did not appear in any games for the Ducks, sitting behind Tyler Shough in 2020 and Anthony Brown this past season.

Being a native of Hoover, AL, Ashford will be heading back home to continue his collegiate career.

“There’s no place like HOME,” Ashford said. “Let’s work.”

Coming out of high school, Ashford was a four-star prospect coming out of Hoover High School according to the On3 Consensus. He was the No. 23 quarterback in the 2020 class and was ranked the No. 15 player from the state of Alabama.

Auburn will now have a three-person quarterback competition heading into next season. Ashford will have the opportunity to start, with Finley, who started the final two games against Alabama and Houston, already on campus. The Tigers took a commitment from Texas A&M’s Zach Calzada who has a history of beating the Crimson Tide himself.

Whoever wins the job will have the pressure of turning around the program with Harsin. A 6-7 record this season was Auburn’s first since 2012 after the Birmingham Bowl loss to Houston. Competing for SEC championships is the expectation for the Tigers and Harsin must get back to that level quickly.

Auburn Tigers offensive lineman returns for sixth year

Veteran Auburn Tigers offensive lineman Alec Jackson just made a huge decision on whether or not to return to school for another season. On Monday afternoon, Jackson announced via his Instagram account that he was returning to Auburn next season.

“Year 6? Why Not,” Jackson captioned his Instagram post.

Jackson is a former three-star recruit according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He originally chose Auburn over other offers from Alabama, USC, LSU, Florida, and many others.

As a true freshman in 2017, Jackson took a redshirt year. He was named to the SEC first year academic honor roll that season. In 2018, he saw his first collegiate action, but it was as a defensive lineman. But in the 2019 season, Jackson transitioned to offensive tackle in played every game. He has served as Auburn’s starting left tackle.
