Every Chiefs victory has a ripple effect. One local baker says her business is thriving, partially because of Kansas City’s success on the gridiron.
She's ready to run with it.
Customers are chasing after Desiree Macke’s custom Chiefs cookies. Cooling Rack Confections in Shawnee, Kansas, is scoring big with every KC touchdown.
“It's so exciting, overwhelming in a really good way,” Macke said.
The cookie artist says when the Chiefs win, orders increase tenfold.
“’Can you make a Mahomes cookie, we really like Travis Kelce, can you put him in our platter?’ So when they do well, I do even better it seems,” Macke said.
Macke and her family are big Chiefs fans and they’re excited to see the team winning. The surge in business is just the icing on top.
With supply chain issues due to the pandemic, she stocked up on supplies. The one thing she'll be short on is sleep. She's blocked out the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, just for Chiefs cookies.
“Sleep will be very hard to come by, especially since Valentine's Day is the day after the Super Bowl. Things will be a little wild. There will be flour flying everywhere in my kitchen for a few weeks,” Macke said.
Cooling Rack Confections takes orders on Facebook and Instagram. Macke says if your party or tailgate has anything to do with Chiefs Kingdom, she's got a cookie for it.
