FOX-5 aired a Washington Football Team commercial hyping the upcoming name announcement during Sunday’s NFC-wild card playoff game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Philadelphia Eagles. The commercial also advertised season tickets for 2022.

The commercial seemed to link the franchise’s past to the present while hyping the future. It featured shots of Washington legends Joe Gibbs, John Riggins and Sean Taylor among others.

Messages flashed in between the highlights..

“Hail to the greats that laid the foundation for our legacy.”

“Hail to the fans we consider family.”

“We are and always have been Washington.”

“And together we will define our future.”

The last message was “We will launch… 2.2.22” as a highlight was shown of current running back JD McKissic diving in the air for a touchdown.

The Washington Football Team will unveil its new name on Feb. 2 during NBC’s Today Show. Washington dropped its old moniker in July 2020 following pressure from the Native American community and team sponsors.

The team played the last two seasons under the temporary name “Washington Football Team.”
