Not since the days of the Dead baby swap and Birkwoods reign of terror writing and stories have I ever seen Eastenders in such a state!!!!!

Honestly, is it going to take a mass exodus off actors/actresses and even MORE loss of viewers to make them think WTF are we doing to this once great show.

These stories are a bloody sh!t show, it’s beyond ridiculous now!!!

It may not be what it was, but we still enjoy sitting down and watching. It could never realistically keep up with other programmes but I enjoy it for what it is

    Hyperbole is off the scale

Look you’re obviously not enjoying it so why not leave those that do in peace to enjoy it without the same tired threads constantly Bashing it

It’s in a great shape for me

Were you born in the last century?

Give over Toni, Eastenders could spew dogsh!t and you’d still think it was caviar. You’ve been delusional for years, the bibles of your posts in its constant favour no matter how poor the content speak volumes.

I’ve often wondered if you work for the BBC.

He is entitled to his opinion.

If people are finding so little to enjoy then just stop watching and let rating speak for themselves. I’m
Refusing to watch Dr Who for the same reason

The only thing is annoying me about the show at the moment is Gray still getting away with murder. He needs to get his comeuppance. This storyline has been going on very too long.

I don't agree with either extreme to be honest. The show is poor in places, certain episodes leave me scratching my head, and it all feels a bit listless, tired, lacking in confidence, and above everything else, inconsistent. You only need to watch the excellent episodes from 1999 currently screening on DRAMA to see that.

That said, there have been some decent episodes recently. The show can be good; it just needs to work on having several stories which work and have legs, work hugely on the length of their story arcs (the majority go on far, far too long), and the pacing needs considerable improvement. It feels as if they don't give each and every episode the same care and attention. One decent episode a week with the rest being given the "that'll do" treatment just isn't good enough.

When Chris Clenshaw has got his feet under the desk properly, he needs to build up families, start bringing back a focus on each episode being as good as it can possibly be, and become writer-led again. The show has some decent writers (Pete Lawson, Daran Little, Peter Mattessi, Yasmeen Khan) but they don't get the credence the writers of old used to - we'd all celebrate a Simon Ashdown script or a Tony Jordan one. It was watercooler-level important, but because the stories were consistently great, even the in between episodes were strong - just that the Ashdown and Jordan eps were landmark events. It really helps when the stories have a confident stride to them, momentum, and the characters very strong, decisive, assertive character journeys. EE today, even the better episodes, feels as if it's being made up as it goes along.

However, insulting, I’ve got to hand it to you, that’s one heck of a one-liner 🤣.

What’s happened that’s so awful, it’s comparable to the baby swap, which made it into the top ten of most complained about TV show moments, of the 2010s?

However you’re definitely delusional when it comes to EE and always have been 😘

I thought it was a decent episode tonight.

A possible new direction for Phil. I mean, sure it's another swerve of prison, but if Phil becomes a grass... well, that's just delicious.

Blame the EP and the Writers in the first instance, Actors can only work with what they are given.

The dead baby swap was the start of a period of horrific writing, the show went from being amazingly written, gritty believable true soap opera stories to the worst standard of writing, characters had personality transplants beyond belief, stories were slow burning and boring and the writing was for the now, no thought to the past nor for the future.

All executive producers like to put their own stamp but need to remember this is not their show, they are caretakers of a much loved institution. It needs to be written with the thought of the past, the now and the future in mind to enable EE to live on. I’m seeing writing for the now, with no thought of the future and stories are becoming overly political rather than realism and dragged out beyond belief.

The only good thing I’ve seen EE pull out is Tom Cotton and they’ll be fools to let this character go.

I completely agree, they have an amazing cast, many workable characters but there is only so much they take before they start to walk.

I think the show is perfectly fine and doesnt really warrant the extreme reaction it sometimes gets (though i acknowledge everyone is entitled to their opinion of course) ultimately the soap genre has moved on, you can of course compare it to how it was 20 years ago, but its meaningless as the genre has changed dramatically since then

    The quality has certainly changed
