Light wintry mix ending around San Antonio Thursday night

Prepare for a very cold start to the day Friday

It’s been a bitterly cold Thursday across South Central Texas after a cold front roared through the area Wednesday night. Temperatures didn’t make it out of the 30s this afternoon!

In addition, areas of light precipitation -- rain, freezing rain, sleet, and even a little snow -- peppered the radar for most of the day. A lot of the precipitation didn’t reach the ground, as it remained too dry at the surface.

Nonetheless, today’s light wintry mix will gradually taper off overnight. Any untreated elevated roadways, like flyovers, could develop a few slick spots. As a result, a Winter Weather Advisory (below) will remain in effect through 6 a.m. Friday.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in place for a portion of the KSAT viewing area until early Friday morning (Copyright 2022 by KSAT - All rights reserved.)

Here’s what you need to know about the forecast going forward:

THURSDAY NIGHT

  • A very light wintry mix will gradually come to an end across the KSAT viewing area overnight.
  • Continue to use caution when driving on elevated roadways, as they will be the first to freeze & potentially develop some icy patches.
  • Temperatures will bottom out in the low to mid-20s overnight in many spots, but it’ll get as cold as the teens across the Hill Country.
A widespread hard freeze is expected through Friday morning (Copyright 2022 by KSAT - All rights reserved.)

FRIDAY

  • It will be very cold early on Friday with the entire area likely to start the day with a freeze.
  • Skies will clear in the morning, leaving us with a lot more sunshine by the afternoon.
  • It’ll still be chilly in the afternoon, but it’ll be above freezing with a high in the 40s.
