Girl, 4, dies days after mother's alleged DWI crash on LI road: police

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (1010 WINS) — A 4-year-old girl died days after she sustained critical injuries from a car crash on Long Island that also led to the arrest of her mother, who was allegedly driving while on drugs at the time, New York State Police said Monday.

Gracelyn Perkowski died Sunday after she was transported in critical condition to Stony Brook University Hospital, authorities said.

Her 34-year-old mother, Amy Wesolowski, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor as well as aggravated DWI with a child, a felony.

Officials said Wesolowski was driving a 2005 Toyota RAV4 on Flanders Road in Riverhead with her daughter on Thursday when it collided with a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by 29-year-old Sonya Fezza.

Wesolowski and Fezza were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment and were released, authorities said.

State Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on the crash is asked to call (631) 756-3300.
