Is How I Met Your Father Connected to How I Met Your Mother?

It certainly is. How I Met Your Father is set in the same universe as How I Met Your Mother, making it a standalone sequel series. So Ted, Robin, Barney, Lily, and Marshall all exist somewhere in this Hulu original. But since this new crew doesn’t know them, you probably won’t be seeing your old favorites return for a while.

Who’s in the Cast of How I Met Your Father?

By now you already know this reboot’s big name. Hilary Duff has arrived to take over Ted’s role as hopeless romantic, but this time around the character’s name is Sophie. Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) will be playing Sophie in the future in a move that mirrors the late Bob Saget’s role in the original.

So we have our mother. Who are her friends? Chris Lowell (GLOW) is Jesse, the pessimist to Duff’s optimist. Francia Raisa (Bring It On: All of Nothing, Grown-ish) stars as Sophie’s party-loving best friend and roommate, Valentina. Tom Ainsley (Serpent) plays Valentina’s new love interest, a British rich kid who’s new to the city. Tien Tran (Don’t Be Afraid) plays Jesse’s sister and another newbie to the Big Apple. Finally, Suraj Sharma (Homeland, God Friended Me) stars as Sid, a responsible bar owner who has to navigate the horrors of long distance dating.
