UPDATE: Victim and suspect identified in fatal Manassas shooting

UPDATE (8:35 p.m.) — Police have identified the suspect and victim. The victim is 37 years old, Mary Anne Smoot. The police said that after further investigation, Smoot and another family member went to the apartment complex to meet with the accused suspect Maquan Omari McCray. The family member that went with Smoot had known McCray.

Police said a verbal argument took place and that argument escalated when McCray shot Smoot several times before leaving the apartment. After a search involving helicopters and police K-9s McCray was not found.

MANASSAS, Va. (WDVM) — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Monday Morning at the Raven Crest Apartments in Manassas.

Police first responded at 10:22 a.m. and found a woman inside one of the apartments who had been shot. They performed CPR until medical personnel arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the suspect had fled on foot before they arrived. They searched for the suspect with K-9 and a helicopter, but could not find them.

Police said that there is no active threat to the community.
