It’s being rumoured that Hogwarts Legacy —the upcoming RPG set in the Harry Potter universe—could be delayed by another year.

That’s according to comments on the Sacred Symbols podcast, as spotted by Video Games Chronicle. Host Colin Moriarty, responding to his co-host bringing up the game, said the following. “I’m hearing behind the scenes that game is not coming out this year, and it’s in some sort of trouble”. He did not, however, elaborate on what this trouble is.

The upcoming RPG hasn’t really been seen at all in the last year. In fact, the last major announcement was to announce its delay into 2022 back in January of last year. The game’s official Twitter account, in fact, has only retweeted since then, in support of other franchise offerings like the upcoming Fantastic Beasts movie and the recent Harry Potter reunion show. There’s been no comment from WB Games on the rumours at the time of writing either.

Hogwarts Legacy was revealed back in September of 2020. It’ll see you take on a newly enrolled wizard at the magical school. However, it’s also set 100 years before Potter and friends ever set foot in the place. A Bloomberg report from March claimed that employees of developer Avalanche Software are also fighting to allow players to create transgender characters. This is, it’s sources claim, in part to respond to transphobic comments made by series creator JK Rowling over recent years.

As for a Hogwarts Legacy release date, we’ll have to wait and see if we get an update soon. The game is currently pencilled in for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2022.
