FOX Sports Extends Deal With Twitter to Cover FIFA World Cups

Get your vuvuzelas ready: Fox Sports will provide coverage of at least two upcoming FIFA World Cup matches in 2022 and 2023.

New York-based media conglomerate Fox Corp., whose Century City-based sports division Fox Sports Interactive Media owns the English-language broadcast rights to the FIFA World Cup through 2026, extended a previous deal with San Francisco-based social media service Twitter Inc. to cover the 2022 FIFA Men’s World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The sports media company will broadcast match highlights on the @FOXSports and
@FOXSoccer Twitter handles. The difference between this and Fox Sports’ previous match coverage is that followers will now be able to tune into Twitter Spaces for question-and-answer sessions with Fox Soccer personalities and live commentary and analysis of the tournament.

“Fans will be watching all the World Cup matches live,” Michael Bucklin, Fox Sports’ senior vice president of digital content, said in a statement. “It’s great to work on this collaboration with Twitter who shares in our mission in being ‘live’ and setting high watermarks for World Cup coverage on social (media).”

In addition to live coverage and commentary, advertising partners will also be able to sponsor videos posted to Fox Sports’ Twitter handles through the social media company’s content monetization technology Amplify.
