The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year has missed the last 10 games for the Cardinals. Will there be a J.J. Watt sighting vs. the Rams on Monday night?
Arizona Cardinals’ general manager Steve Keim was pretty busy this offseason when it came to adding veteran talent.
The team traded for center Rodney Hudson via the Raiders. The club added long-distance kicker Matt Prater and welcomed seven-time Pro Bowl wideout A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals ala free agency. And look at the impact former Pittsburgh Steelers’ running back James Conner has had on the Arizona offense.
The biggest name was grabbing defensive veteran J.J. Watt after he asked and was granted his release from the Arizona Cardinals. He played in the team’s first seven games, all victories. He came up with 16 total tackles (5 for losses), one sack, 10 quarterback hits and a forced fumble while knocking down two passes. But he suffered a shoulder injury in the Week 7 win at Cleveland and hadn’t played since.

Kilff Kingsbury’s club could certainly use some help. The Cardinals lost six of their final 10 games, including a 38-30 home setback in Week 18 to the cellar-dwelling Seattle Seahawks. Meanwhile, the team doesn’t have a lot of playoff experience on its roster and the presence of a battled-tested 11-year veteran can’t hurt.
Of course, Watt has appeared in his share of postseason games. He suited up eight times in the playoffs for the Houston Texans from 2011-19. He’s racked up six sacks and some may remember that he picked off Bengals’ quarterback Andy Dalton in the first-ever playoff game for the franchise in ’11 – returning the interception 29 yards for a score.

Monday night, the Cardinals will play in their first postseason game since 2015. Third-year quarterback Kyler Murray will be playing in his first NFL postseason game. Meanwhile, could history repeat itself when it comes to a pick-six via Watt at the expense of Rams’ quarterback Matthew Stafford?
