STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Poconos was one area that saw several inches of snow overnight and into Monday morning.
Many residents of downtown Stroudsburg spent most of their Monday digging out and cleaning up as they have been shoveling to clear what’s left of the storm.
Eyewitness News spoke to Stroudsburg Borough Officials about their snow removal plans.
When there is snowfall in the Poconos, some people embrace it.
“it’s cold and I can sit down in it and relax,” said Jordan Jones, Stroudsburg.
“You could just watch it from the window with some hot chocolate, hot cocoa just relax and meditate,” said Matteo Jubeark, Stroudsburg.
And there are others who do not embrace it at all.
“it’s a pain,” said ESU student, Joe Pokrywka.
Many residents were out shoveling Monday morning after the area was hit with several inches of snow and a wintry mix overnight.
“We had the rain last night after the snow came in. Kinda softened the snow up but made it heavier. So I could imagine it being a pain for like the older folks who still need to get to work, get their car out,” Pokrywka said.
Jubeark and his cousin Jordan say they were outside for nearly an hour cleaning their driveway and nearby sidewalk.
“Working hard, trying to get everything out the way,” said Jubeark.
The borough of Stroudsburg declared a snow emergency which will remain in effect until Tuesday morning.
“We did declare it in this case because we have to come in tonight. Our public works crews have to clear most of the metered areas and all the business district,” said Brian Ace, Director of Public Works, Stroudsburg Borough.
Ace says crews have been out plowing and salting since 7:00 p.m., Sunday, working straight through the night.
“We are just doing our best to work around the clock here to get everything picked up,” ace said.
