A selection of PS3 games have been spotted on the PS Store with price tags, leading many to believe Sony is working on implementing a new backwards compatibility system.

Older generation games have been present on the PlayStation Store for some time, however previously the listings would direct players to Sony's PlayStation Now streaming service. This latest revelation has instead seen some of these PS3 listings with price tags, hinting at a possible change coming our way.

So far, games such as Dead or Alive 5, Bejeweled 3, Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones and The Forgotten Sands have been spotted.

The news follows that of Sony removing PS Now cards from sale in the UK, weeks after the same was done in the US. The removal fuelled rumors that Sony is gearing up to rework its PS Plus subscription service, offering integration with PS Now.

The new subscription service, which will reportedly release this Spring, is set to be split into three tiers. The first would include existing PlayStation Plus benefits while the second would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. The third tier would include game streaming, demos, and a library of PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

A huge shake-up such as this would be the perfect time to implement a backwards compatibility service for PlayStation.

Fans took to Reddit to post their latest discoveries, with commentors quick to share their thoughts. One user said, "If the PS1/2/3 games are actually purchasable and downloadable that would be friggin' huge. Even if it was just what was available on PS3 originally there’s a great selection of classic games on it still."

It's unclear exactly how long these games have been sitting on the PS Store with their price tags, and without confirmation from Sony their status has only been speculated. It's rumored that Sony are gearing up for their first presentation of the year in February. If true, perhaps all will be revealed there.
