Rising rapper Wavy Navy Pooh, whose most popular song was “M.I.A.M.I. (Murder is a Major Issue),” died Friday in a drive-by shooting in Miami, police said.
The 27-year-old artist was declared dead by authorities who responded to the scene, CBS Miami reported, citing local officials.
“The victim, in this case, was at the intersection of 152 Street and 127th Avenue getting ready to make a right to go eastbound on 152 Street,” the Miami-Dade Police Department said. “When an unknown vehicle, a Lexus approached him from the driver’s side and opened fire and then fled westbound.”
Three other people in the rapper’s car, which included 1- and 5-year-old children, weren’t injured in the shooting, which occurred near Zoo Miami, officials said.
Authorities have not named a suspect, nor have they released a potential motive.
Wavy Navy Pooh was from Miami. His real name was Shandler Antoine Beaubien.
“It is with great sadness & a heavy heart that we announce the loss of one of our beloved artist[s], Wavy Navy Pooh,” record label Quality Control Music said in an Instagram tribute. “Our thoughts & prayers are with the family at this time.”
