BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2022 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — If one thing is clear in the latest round of COVID-19 numbers from Florida, it’s that no one has any idea what numbers are real, or at the very least, what they mean.

The United States Department of Health and Human Services reports that 68 people died from COVID-19 in a Florida hospital on Sunday while 2,089 adults were admitted as inpatients for COVID care. HHS also reports 105 children under age 18 were also admitted for COVID care, bringing the total number of beds in use for COVID hospitalizations to 11,265.

But while hospitalizations are apparently increasing, the CDC — using data from the Florida Department of Health — reports that the seven-day moving average of new cases is declining. Over the past four days of reported data, Florida’s new case count average declined from 65,686 to 64,033, to 61,500, to 58,568.

We note that the last report was issued on January 14th due to the holiday weekend. A new set of numbers will be released on Tuesday.

And KINSA, whose Healthweather report we routinely use, dropped Palm Beach County from “critical” level of 99 to a “moderate” level of 42. KINSA data is used by public health officials worldwide, and is based on hundreds of thousands of “connected” thermometers that transmit anonymous data to the KINSA’s computer system which tracks current illness spread. KINSA is credited with accurately predicting the initial spread of COVID, as well as subsequent waves.
