Firefighters battled a massive nine-alarm blaze on Monday morning that consumed a motel on Central Avenue in Salisbury, Mass., authorities said.
The fire in the area of Central Avenue and Northern Boulevard has shut down nearby roads, and power and utilities have been shut off along Central Ave, police said. Authorities are asking motorists to avoid the area.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said the blaze has shut down Route 1A by Sunset View Lane.
Salisbury Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are on site to help anyone displaced by the fire, police said. The Red Cross said at least 20 people have been displaced by the fire.
The flames began at Michael’s Oceanfront Motel shortly before 2 a.m. and eventually consumed two other neighboring buildings, according to NBC10.
Crews responding to the scene including some from New Hampshire, the television station reported.
High winds could be seen whipping the fire into an intense blaze as firefighters worked to battle it Monday morning.
