A FedEx driver's delivery method has gone viral online, after they were caught hurling a package at the front of a house, without even stopping the vehicle.
Resident Rachel Porter shared the Nest camera footage to her TikTok account, which she alleged was originally posted by a neighbor to NextDoor. The platform allows neighbors to share posts and information about their area to each other.
Porter didn't explicitly confirm how the video was shared, or any extra information added by the neighbor, but wrote that: "Someone posted on NextDoor complaining about how FedEx delivered their package."
In the video, the FedEx van can be spotted driving to the house, slowing down slightly but never coming to a complete halt. A parcel was then chucked at full speed out of the vehicle toward the house.
The delivery slammed against the front of the house and even bounced onto the patio, making a loud noise.
The homeowner, who wishes to stay anonymous, told Storyful: "I was having dinner with my family when we heard a loud bang at our door. We thought someone was trying to break in through the glass window. I went downstairs to see the package on the doorstep and the FedEx truck around the corner. Upon looking at my Nest doorbell camera feed, I was shocked to see that my package was thrown from the truck. Luckily there was no damage to my door, and the package contained harmless items that did not break."
In just six days, the video has gained over 1 million views, with over 190,000 likes. Users have been left both impressed and shocked at the clearly less-conventional way of delivering parcels.
"I'm honestly impressed," commented one user.
"How did they do that so accurately and so hard, they gotta canon in there?" added another.
"At least he knocked," joked one viewer.
FedEx Calls Behavior 'Unacceptable'
In a statement to Newsweek, FedEx said: "The behavior depicted in the video is unacceptable and inconsistent with the professionalism FedEx couriers and service providers demonstrate every day in safely and securely delivering millions of packages to our customers. We are committed to treating our customers' shipments with the utmost care and will take the appropriate steps to address this matter."
The homeowner told Storyful that despite seeing the humor in the situation, it wouldn't have been so funny had it been something more fragile.
"The feedback has been crazy. People love the video and wonder if the driver should join the San Francisco 49ers or the SF Giants or maybe it's Tom Brady in disguise because the throw was so far away and perfectly thrown. Its nice to have some fun with the video. But I would not have been happy if it was something more sensitive. Since then, I have not received any FedEx packages. I am scared though of something else happening," they said.
The video comes as the latest in a trend on TikTok of delivery-themed posts, documenting the different and shocking methods employed by drivers.
In June 2020, a man named Gabe White shared a video online comparing the difference between his FedEx and USPS drivers, with a clear contrast between the approaches.
The footage from his doorbell camera begins with a delivery driver, who the homeowner claimed to be a FedEx worker, delivering a large parcel. The box was simply dropped straight onto the patio, before the driver swiftly walked off.
A USPS driver arrived later, while it was raining. The driver could be heard saying: "Jesus, they just threw that on the floor." He then places his parcel in the corner of the patio, before moving the other deliveries out of the rain and into a safer place.
"I wanted to acknowledge the great customer service from the USPS driver and share the contrast between the two deliveries," White told Newsweek, adding that he harbors no upset at the FedEx driver.
"We all have bad days where we aren't at our best. There was no damage to the contents of the box that was dropped, although it is a little shocking to see. I have no interest in shaming anyone, I would rather focus on the positive experience with the second driver," he said.
In a statement to Newsweek at the time, FedEx Ground said: "The behavior depicted in the video is unacceptable and inconsistent with the professionalism FedEx Ground service providers demonstrate every day in safely and securely delivering millions of packages to our customers. We are committed to treating our customers' shipments with the utmost care and are taking appropriate steps to investigate this matter."
