Google is expected to announce its first foldable smartphone this year. The phone has been referred to as the Pixel Fold in the past, but it seems like that may be completely wrong. A rather surprising name just got tipped for Google’s first foldable smartphone.

According to a report from 9to5Google, Google’s first foldable smartphone could be called ‘Pixel Notepad’. That’s not all, though, as the source also says that it could be more affordable than you may think.

9to5Google claims this info has been provided by “a source that has proven knowledgeable about Google’s Pixel plans in the past”. It is said that the ‘Notepad’ is the “working brand name” for the device.

Google seemingly also considered the ‘Logbook’ name, but that idea was shelved. There is a good chance Google will change this working name, and use something else in the end, though. That happens all the time, so this may not be its final name.

Another detail that was provided has to do with the device’s price tag. Google’s first Pixel smartphone could be more affordable than the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is priced at $1,799, so that doesn’t mean Google’s phone will be affordable, but it does mean it will cost less than that, presuming that this rumor is to be believed.

When can we expect this foldable to launch? Well, that’s a good question. Nobody knows the answer to that question yet, well, other than Google, probably. Don’t expect it to drop anytime soon, though.

We do expect it to become official this year, but we may have to wait until Q4 even. Maybe Google decides to launch it sooner, during a separate event, or perhaps even during Google I/O in mid-2022. That’s not as likely, though.

The company’s first foldable is most likely to launch alongside the Pixel 7 series towards the end of the year, in Q3 or Q4. That’s just a guess, but we’ll see what will happen.
