What's available at OCPL in 2022

Ginger Kohr, OCPL Director

It’s a new year, and a good time to post a reminder about the services that are available at the Owen County Public Library:

The books, Audiobooks, and Video collections are constantly being updated, with the newest books shelved just inside the front door. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please ask, we take requests, and if we can’t get what you’re asking for, we can usually borrow it from another library.

Library cards are free and we don’t charge late fees.

We have plenty of spaces to sit and read and in addition to books, we subscribe to newspapers: The Indianapolis Star, Bloomington Herald Times, Wall Street Journal, Spencer Evening World, USA Today, among them, and nearly 50 magazines.

You can also check out park passes, hot spots, and binge buckets containing pre-selected movies, popcorn, and other goodies.

There are computers, copy machines, fax capability, and all kinds of tech capabilities in the tech room, including adobe cloud, our new Nintendo Switch, Virtual Reality opportunities and tablets for the kids.

On the website there are multiple ways to check out e-books, audiobooks, movies, and magazines through CloudLibrary, Kanopy, and Libby.

We continue programs with Fun With Friends, Cuddle Up, Home School groups, and host violin lessons, T’ai Chi and exercise classes. Other programs occur all throughout the year with special events for Summer Reading and at Christmas time.

Throughout the community you will find Little Free Libraries, and there is a StoryWalk on MyPath, all provided by the library.

The Friends of the Owen County Library hold book sales on the second Saturday of the month, in the library from 9 am -2 pm.

At the present, we are having some staffing shortages due to illness and exposure to Covid. So, while we are making extra efforts at cleaning, masking, and staying at home when we feel ill to help keep our patrons safe, we ask that you please not come into the library if you are coughing, have a fever, or are experiencing any cold, flu, or covid symptoms. Please help keep our staff safe, as well as the other patrons, and children who visit here.

Curb service is always available. Give us a call at 812-829-3392, or contact us online and we will be glad to bring the items you request out to you.
