Eric Bailly had to be substituted late on in Ivory Coast’s 2-2 draw with Sierra Leone on Sunday after sustaining a head injury.

The centre-back played the full 90 minutes in his country’s opening victory in the African Cup of Nations as they defeated Equatorial Guinea 1-0.

Ivory Coast were on course for a second win on the bounce at the AFCON to guarantee qualification from Group E, but it didn’t quite go as planned…

Sebastien Haller gave the Ivory Coast the lead after 25 minutes but that came after Franck Kessie missed a penalty.

Equatorial Guinea showed early signs that they could force a comeback in the second half thanks to a fantastic strike from Musa Kamara to make it 2-1.

Ten minutes later, Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe hit the back of the net to restore Ivory Coast’s lead.

They thought that was the winner as they headed into injury time before Bailly had to be substituted for a bang to the head.

It is still not known how serious the injury is.

They were not able to keep Equatorial Guinea out as the pressure grew in the dying moments. That was when Alhaji Kamara tapped home the equaliser.

Ivory Coast are still on top of Group E despite their recent draw.
