Family drew Ashley Moyer home, her business followed

Ashley Moyer is an interior designer with clients from coast to coast. She spends part of her time operating out of an office in a restored fire station in Zanesville.

ZANESVILLE – It’s not often someone starts their career in New York City then comes to Zanesville, but that’s exactly what Ashley Moyer did.

“Family has always been important to me,” she said. “I’d been away from mine for too long, so I decided to move back to my home state of Ohio from New York. That’s when I decided it was time to go out on my own.”

Ashley Moyer Interior Design was established in October 2013.

“My mission was to bring a global design view to the Midwest,” she noted. “We’ve been in business for eight years now and it was absolutely the right decision. Drawing and creating and bringing those designs to life is in my blood.”

Moyer grew up in Zanesville, graduated from Rosecrans High School in 2001, then earned a bachelor of arts in interior design from the New York School of Interior Design in NYC. She started her career creating residential interiors in New York City and the Hamptons before she came home.

“I was very creative as a child,” she recalled. “I loved drawing plans and building things. I loved creating and building on my own rather than playing with toys.

“I would say my love for interior design started around 5 or 6 years old,” she added. “I would design and build my own dollhouses and create floor plans on paper. In fifth grade I would skip recess to work in the art room drawing perspectives and creating artwork.”

Fast forward. Moyer now loves “creating a custom space, tailored to my client’s needs and wants. We dream it together and then bring it to life just like I did – and still do – with my dollhouses when I was little.

“For our clients,” she added, “we’re dream-makers, partners in crime – and sometimes obstacle course racers when our suppliers have challenges. The absolute best part is when we’re standing in the finished space, all the touch ups done, everything positioned just so, and the client is thrilled to see their dream space in the real world.”

Take, for instance, Laurie Kenley.

“I worked with Ashley on a complete remodel of the home I just bought,” Kenley said. “She’s a joy to work with and she created a lovely home for me.

“We took that place down to the studs,” Kenley continued, “moved walls, re-created the kitchen from scratch, put in an epic bathroom, etc. I couldn't visualize the big picture, but Ashley could see it very clearly and her drawings helped me see it too. Watching it come together in real life was amazing. It’s honestly one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had and now I get to live here.”

“Having my own company has been wonderful,” Moyer responded, “Personally, and professionally, there’s nowhere I’d rather be, and I’m looking toward the next phase of this creative life.”
