Welcome to the Sunday edition of NHL Rumors. This time we will track the latest from the San Jose Sharks, Arizona Coyotes, and Columbus Blue Jackets.
San Jose Sharks – Tomas Hertl
Rumor: Per – Pierre LeBrun – TSN. With the termination of forward Evander Kane’s contract, LeBrun thinks the San Jose Sharks may have enough cap space to sign Tomas Hertl to an extension. Much hinges on the outcome of Kane’s NHLPA grievance filed on his behalf. Will the two sides come together, or will the Sharks wait to see if they are participating in the postseason?

Analysis: Hertl only has a three-team preferred list of where he might want to go if traded. According to LeBrun, he feels the New York Rangers could be in the running to obtain the valued forward. The Rangers are tied for first in the Metropolitan Division and have about $9.7 million in cap space to entertain an offer to Hertl.
That is of course IF the Sharks don’t make the playoffs by the trade deadline. If they are in the postseason, why trade a guy like Hertl who is very successful? Is he getting tired of not winning in San Jose? Perhaps. The Sharks are wavering near the wild-card spot and we shall see what happens with Hertl. Arizona Coyotes – Lawson Crouse
Rumor: Per – Nick Goss – nbcsports.com. Could Lawson Crouse be a target for the Boston Bruins before trade deadline?
Analysis: Jeff Marek from Sportsnet said, “Boston has always been attached to that name (Crouse).” Well, there’s a reason for that. Who wouldn’t want a 24-year-old forward at 6′-4″, 220 pounds? Crouse was the 10th overall selection in the 2015 draft by the Florida Panthers. That pick was traded to the Arizona Coyotes. Crouse has nine goals, nine assists in 34 games this season. He also is a very physical presence on the ice with 92 hits.
Some say, that is just the type of player that fits the mold of the Bruins. Or, even the Philadelphia Flyers who could also pursue him. His play has improved quite a bit this season, thus he is in our NHL rumors this time. For a return it’s no secret that the Bruins would love to accommodate Jake DeBrusk‘s trade request. Can the two teams come to an agreement? Or does Crouse look to be in the Coyotes’ rebuilding plans?
Columbus Blue Jackets – Max Domi
Rumor: Per – Frank Seravalli – dailyfaceoff.com. Max Domi could be a perfect rental player for a playoff contending team. A good top-six forward who has eight goals, eight assists this season. And don’t forget that 28 goal, 72 point season a few years back in Montreal.
Analysis: The holdback on Domi maybe his current $5.3 million salary. A playoff bound team may want to grab him but will need the Columbus club to retain some salary to make it happen. That is a possibility and even with Domi’s recent injury issues, he has played in 25 games this season for the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He’s always been fast and a scoring threat ever since his days with the Coyotes when he teamed up with Anthony Duclair to form the Killer Ds in Arizona. He’s tough, fast and can fight. What more can you ask for? Well… maybe a lower salary.
