SM Entertainment Called Out For Unfair Treatment Towards Red Velvet — Here's Why

SM Entertainment is being called out for their unfair treatment towards Red Velvet compared to their juniors, aespa. Keep on reading to learn why.

SM Entertainment Called Out For Unfair Treatment Towards Red Velvet

Dance practice videos are considered a requirement for every K-pop comeback. Almost every K-pop group releases a dance practice video for their comebacks, allowing their fans to see the choreography in its entirety without fancy stage outfits or camerawork. That is why it is surprising to learn that Red Velvet, who has had around 20 comebacks in their career, only has five dance practice videos online.

Specifically, including sub-units and whole group comebacks, Red Velvet only has five dance practice videos, which are "Rookie," "Umpah Umpah," "Naughty," "Psycho" and "Look."

In addition, some dance practice videos, such as "Happiness" and "Dumb Dumb," were leaked by staff members, but SM Entertainment never officially released the product.

SM Entertainment also showed the members practicing "Power Up" in an official video, but the dance practice was never shared online.

Soon, SM Entertainment's treatment of Red Velvet and aespa were compared. Despite only debuting a year ago, aespa has released various dance practice videos for their lead singles. The girl group often releases more than one type, such as with costumes or just in casual clothing. SM Entertainment also lets aespa appear on shows that show off their choreography.

The difference in the dance practice videos between Red Velvet and aespa is being considered as proof that SM Entertainment does not take Red Velvet seriously. However, despite the treatment Red Velvet receives from SM Entertainment, they still rose as one of the most popular third-generation K-pop girl groups.

Because of that, people are demanding SM Entertainment treat Red Velvet better and allow them to release their dance practice videos.

Some comments concerning Red Velvet's treatment read, "Why does Red Velvet have so little dance practice videos?" "aespa only debuted for a year, and they already have more dance clips than Red Velvet," "Red Velvet's ability is better than other groups in the same era, but because of their treatment, their reputation lags," and "SM Entertainment releases Red Velvet content as if they were from a mid-range company."
